Our Therapeutic Approach

At Gippsland Equine, our approach combines the relational wisdom of horses with evidence-informed counselling frameworks to support healing, self-awareness, grief integration, and emotional wellbeing.

Equine Assisted Psychotherapy & Learning (EAP/L)

Our work is grounded in the Equine Psychotherapy Institute model of Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and Learning. This trauma-informed, relational approach recognises horses as highly intuitive and responsive beings who offer immediate, honest, non-verbal feedback.

Working alongside horses can help clients develop emotional regulation, self-awareness, boundaries, confidence, communication skills, and deeper connection to self and others. Sessions are experiential, mindful, and tailored to each individual’s needs, with no horse riding involved.

David Kessler Grief Counselling Model

Our grief support is also informed by the work of David Kessler, one of the world’s leading voices in grief and loss. This compassionate model acknowledges that grief is not something to “fix” or move on from, but something we learn to carry with support, meaning, and connection.

Drawing on David Kessler’s teachings around the stages of grief, meaning-making, and compassionate presence, we provide a safe space for individuals navigating bereavement, trauma, life transitions, anticipatory grief, and complex loss experiences.

Together, these approaches create a gentle yet powerful pathway toward healing, reconnection, and growth.
